>What Melanie gave me – Beautiful People

>There are many things in my life that I feel Melanie gave me.
Apart from her lyrics and music I mean. Her lyrics and music have accompanied me now for over 40 years and I still bless that day I found her on our black and white TV in a cold house in June 1969. I had just turned 15.
It was instant love with deep intensity and has been so.

One of the things I did because Melanie sang about it was to stay awake one night when I had gone to see Melanie sing in The Drury Lane theatre – Peter had provided us with Free Tickets (!)
and the concert was amazing, with Incredible String Band and a Nut throwing a bottle of ink at Melanie – this Nut still goes to concerts and always threatens to do something as he feel he was looked upon with injustice – what a twisted, sorry and unhappy mind this man must have – but anyway, back to my story
Melanie had written the song : Birthday of the Sun

BIRTHDAY OF THE SUN
© Kama Sutra Music

Oh I’m the one – I found the birthday
Of the sun
All things change an’ now
It’s the birthday of the rain
If I never said goodbye to all
That I’ve known
I would never be alone

But still – well I would not cry –
I’m not finished yet – boy –
So wipe the smile from your eyes
‘Cause if I were to hang my head
I’d miss all the rainbows
And I’d drown in raindrops instead.

I’m gonna win –
I’m not finished yet – boy –
So wipe the smirk from your chin
‘Cause if I were to hang my head
I’d miss all the rainbows
And I’d drown in raindrops instead.

And all things change
Happy Birthday to the rain

BABY DAY

Da da da da da da, da da da da da da

Why sleep when the day has been called out by the sun
From the night ‘cause the light’s gonna shine on everyone
Why sleep when the sleep only closes up our eyes
Why sleep when we can watch the sun a-rise

We were meant to see the beginning of the day
I believe it was planned to lift us this way
Take you an apple and take you a song and watch a baby day be born
Take you an apple and take you a song, watch a baby day be born

Quite quite, said I that’s all very well to say
But I rose before the dawn to your singing yesterday
I couldn’t see the rising ‘cause the dark was in my sky
I couldn’t see the sun ‘cause the sun was in my eye

Take you an apple and take you a song, watch a baby day be born
Take you an apple and take you a song, watch a baby day be born

Why sleep, I heard and I followed it today
To the top of the hill where the wind songs play
And I sing it like I heard it, why I heard it who knows why?
Why sleep when we can watch the sun a-rise

We were meant to see the beginning of the day
I believe it was planned to lift us this way

so me and my other Melanheads decided not to go to sleep and watch the birthday of the sun and we saw the beginning of the day.

We sat at the end of a big field in London’s East Acton, where we stayed in a place that was called Tent City and we watch it get light, how the dark sky got lighter and lighter. And that it was light before the sun came. It was an amazing experience and I have often thought of it and how Melanie gave me the idea to do this.

So this is one of the things I owe Melanie a BIG THANK YOU, MELANIE for.
